gardening has been one of my most favorite things. (just one of many) dirty finger nails and dirty knees yup, that is how i like it. outside rain or shine cool or hot yup, that is how i like it. my grandmother was always my inspiration. she loved her flowers! she grew things like amaryllis, azaleas, hydrangea, althea and violets and more. Her name was mattie maude and she dipped her peach snuff and spit as she would walk me through her yard and gave me little plants to take home. all these came with instructions on how to plant and care for them. i loved it! she truly had a green thumb. she passed down some of her wisdom and though my thumb isn't near green as hers i did capture her passion. flower farming on the other hand is a totally different bird than just gardening in the yard. you know the saying never say never? i said i would "never" farm. well, i lied.
my flower farm is at my home. it is not open to the public. not right now anyway. it is beautiful sometime, it is a work in progress, not complete and I am always learning what not to do.
here is where i will share how i got started. i will also share the challenges of growing in north florida in rocky sandy soil. this will be my dairy of sorts. the rain and the drought and flooding, the heat and humidity, the bugs and the snakes. i have had triumphs and failures, tears and cheers. i will share it all. the glamorous, glowing , fun filled experiences of flower farming. yup shared here.
